Milestones in our success story

Bosch Thermotechnology has been operating globally for over 125 years, ensuring people are warm and comfortable in their homes with efficient, easy-to-use and reliable appliances. Today we offer solutions for indoor climate, hot water, and decentralised energy management with a focus on intelligent and connected technology.

1892

Patent granted to Hugo Junkers for the Calorimeter - a measuring device in which the combustion heat developed by gas is transferred completely to running water and thus the calorific value can be continuously measured.

1894

Based on the calorimeter principle, Junkers developed a ‘liquid heater’ which laid the theoretical foundation for condensing technology.

1908

Junkers releases a continuous flow water heater. Water is heated instantly as it flows through the appliance at the time of use, and hot water can be enjoyed in unlimited quantities.

1927

Junkers appliances are released for the first time in Australia.

1953

Robert Bosch (Australia) Pty Ltd take over distribution of Junkers products within Australia.

1968

Bosch is the first manufacturer to introduce the piezoelectric ignition for gas appliances. The ignition requires only a push of a button instead of a match or gas lighter.

1974

Development and release of the first locally designed and assembled, externally mounted hot water heater known as the ‘Wall Box’.

1984

Junkers branded products are renamed as Bosch products in Australia.

1985

Junkers introduces its first wall-hung gas condensing boiler.

1987

Release of the Water Wizard range of externally mounted domestic hot water units. These were designed in Australia and manufactured at the Clayton plant.

1996

Release of internal and external continuous flow gas water heaters with battery ignition, eliminating the need for a constantly burning pilot light.

2000

Production of water heaters at the Clayton, Victoria site ceases.

2001

Bosch Thermotechnology is the first supplier in the world to use a hydrodynamic generator as an energy source for igniting the burner. The hot water unit operates using only gas and water.

2002

Release of the HydroPower range of internal and external water heaters using a hydrodynamic generator.

2004

Introduction of 50R series of electronic water heaters.

2005

Bosch launches 32L series of commercial hot water heaters.

2006

The 70R series of electronic water heaters known as Highflow is released.

2009

Bosch introduces the 26 eco+ and 32C continuous flow models. Both water heaters utilise condensing technology and are 6 star energy efficient.

2010

Bosch launches the high-efficiency Compress 3000 Heat Pump water heater.

2011

Bosch condensing boilers for hydronic heating are released to the Australian Market.

2014

Launch of hot water and steam industrial boilers.

2015

Bosch’s Compress 3000 AW air-to-water heat pump for hydronic heating is introduced.

2016

Launch of Australia’s first Bluetooth connected hot water appliance.
